Using
Spray Paint to Pattern Metal Mesh
Materials
Metal mesh (I used
brass)
Drop cloth
Respirator (this is important!)
Spray paint used for painting metal (from Home
Depot, Lowe's etc.)
Vinyl placemats
Rubber or latex gloves
Technique
- Spread out the drop cloth on a wide, flat surface outdoors. (I spread mine on our grass lawn).
- Unroll the brass mesh and place the vinyl placemats on top. Unless it is an especially windy day, you don't really need to adhere the placemats to the metal (nor do you need to clean the metal mesh beforehand)
- Make sure that you put your respirator on securely.
- Using the directions from the spray paint, shake the can and apply evenly through the vinyl placemat. (You will be fairly close to the mesh (6-8 inches) You can lift a corner of the placemat periodically to check the degree of coverage.
- Let the placemat dry (it doesn't have to be completely dry to remove from the metal mesh). Voila! You have some unique.
