This is a simple technique for dyeing paper
using food coloring which is non-toxic and can
be purchased at any grocery store. You can
quickly produce a number of varied, beautiful
papers which can be used for books, cards or
many other paper projects. This background
technique can be used before applying walnut
ink or on its own.
Start with a sheet of
printmaking paper (I used Rives BFK), a
container large enough to manipulate the sheets
(1 sheet torn into 4 pieces), water and food
coloring. You may want to use rubber gloves to
avoid dyeing your hands!
