Just finished this memoir yesterday and now have ordered her first novel, Short Girls, from the library. It's interesting that all of her memories relate to food, in fact, all of the chapters are named after various foods throughout her escape from Vietnam and settling in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

I just found this last night and it's a little late since the 31 days of January are already here but it's a challenge that I think is worth undertaking . . . my plan is to complete it by the end of the month. The concept is pure genius -- forget New Year's resolutions and blaming ourselves for what we aren't -- here is a unique chance to celebrate who we ARE! It's a simple challenge -- for the 1st 31 days of the year, find one positive thing about yourself. I'm working on my now and hope to post it (if I'm bold enough) when it's done. If it's not done by January 31st, I'm not going to beat myself up about it . . .

Today, I signed up to volunteer at Pittsburgh's only art gallery for artists with disabilities. They conduct monthly classes and are looking for volunteers to silk screen student's work onto t-shirts.
